About Us

Birmingham Savoyards was formed in 1963 principally to perform the works of Gilbert & Sullivan, and today we are one of the few surviving and thriving “G&S” societies in the Midlands area.

We originally staged our main performances at the Theatre Centre in Islington Row, Birmingham, but when this was demolished in 1973, Savoyards moved to the Old Rep where we became the first amateur company to perform Gilbert & Sullivan on that famous old stage.  Indeed, we still put on our annual production in this wonderfully atmospheric theatre each March.

As well as our annual G&S production, we also stage concerts throughout the year, where we sing a wide range of other music spanning  the 20th century through to the present day.  Through the performance of such music we support a number of charities, including the National Federation of the Blind and the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, as well as assisting local Churches and organisations with their fund raising.

In addition to all our music related activities, we also enjoy a number of social events throughout the year such as our annual barbecue, quiz evenings, beer & skittles, etc.

We are always looking for new members (on or off the stage) and patrons, so if you are interested, we would be delighted to hear from you.
